"There is no way I can adequately thank the entire team at St. Luke’s for assisting my family in reinventing Mom’s 80th birthday party."
That’s what Cedar Rapids resident Jim Kern wrote about St. Luke’s employees Michele Blaylock, Ashley Steinkamp, Aimee Traugh and Judy Walling, for their efforts after his Mom suffered a stroke in early July. The four employees helped Kern plan an “alternative” birthday party for her in the hospital.
"The hospital employees made everything come together seamlessly for Mom and the more than 50 guests who helped her celebrate,” Kern continued. “My family and I feel blessed to have the support of such a caring institution."

The Guardian Angel program gives a patient or family an opportunity to express appreciation for a specific St. Luke’s associate, department or volunteer who made a difference in their health care experience. The gift is then directed to either the associate’s department or to the Guardian Angel Fund.
