The Campaign for the St. Luke's Dental Health Center
We need your help. The St. Luke's Dental Health Center staff works in cramped facilities with outdated equipment. Yet, they provided over 14,000 screenings and 3,245 in-clinic dental services to pediatric and developmentally-disabled patients in 2008.
Underserved populations are seriously impacted by ongoing decay and abcesses.
Now, they need your help. You can be the spark that puts a smile on their faces and on the face of our community's healthy future.
Give to the St. Luke's Dental Health Center
The need is very real. The average 6-year old treated at the DHC has 4.2 times the level of dental disease as an average Iowa child. Your gift will help us expand our clinic space and purchase state-of-the-art equipment that will give our patients the least painful and most positive dental experience. Most importantly, it will give children the confidence to smile.
Our plan is to:
- Completely redesign the clinic adding 1,000 square feet.
- Add one operatory room, allowing us to increase the number of patients served and decrease waiting times.
- Add digital radiographic equipment, reducing the amount of radiation exposure for our patients.
- Replace the 17-year-old equipment in our five current operative areas.
- Add a consultation room and enlarge the existing one to provide privacy for patients and staff.
- Add office space for dental students, hygienists and assistants creating a more positive work environment.
- Create a welcoming, child-friendly lobby and play area.
The Cost
Expansion, renovations and construction: $328,723. Digital radiographic technology and new dental equipment: $301,277. Total DHC project cost: $630,000.
The Benefits
Hundreds of our underserved and special needs patients still live with too much pain to smile. One young patient of the Dental Health Center recently told the Center's director,
"Dr. Jones, you've been working on my teeth for two weeks. That's the longest I can remember not having a toothache."
