St. Luke's new ER facility complements its outstanding emergency care.
Thanks to the generosity of thousands of people like you, one of the state's busiest Emergency Departments is faster, more efficient, and easier to get to. St. Luke's Hospital opened the doors of its newly renovated and expanded Emergency Department in December 2008.
The expansion's more than 13,000 additional square feet will benefit Eastern Iowans in a number of ways:
- Privacy. 10 new private rooms, bringing the number of total private rooms in the ER to 34.
- Productivity. The way the new ER is laid out, all of the equipment needed is brought directly to the patient.
- Communication. Staff members use wireless devices that enable them to communicate with one another effectively.
- Layout. The department's unique racetrack designs creates better flow and easier access to patients - resulting in a reduced wait time overall.
- Patient amenities. Flat screen televisions, wireless internet, and laptops for checkout are all features patients and visitors can expect at the new ER.
"Not only is this a top-notch facility, which redefines emergency care for patients, but it's a great environment to work in for doctors, nurses and other health care professionals. The focus of the ER remodel was patient comfort, care and access, combined with the latest technology. I think we've exceeded expectations with these changes."
Dr. Ryan Sundermann, MD
St. Luke's Emergency Department medical director
